The Seemingly Unending ASUU Strike

The Academic Staff Union Of Universities (ASUU) embarked on a Nationwide strike on March 23, 2020, following its dispute with the federal government over the inability to pay salaries of lecturers who are not enrolled into the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS),among other outstanding issues.

For 8 months, university students are yet to resume.Few days ago,the presidency issued a press release saying the federal government alone can’t finance universities in Nigeria.

Also, the ASUU President, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, said the latest demand was that the federal government should give the clearance to National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) to conduct an integrity test on the University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS), a homegrown payment platform created by ASUU in place of the government’s Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS), which the government is yet to approve.
